Of course, there is actual bin worthy news a few miles away:

Must genuinely be awful for the residents, though it does also look like some are just taking the piss and using it as an excuse to start fly-tipping sofas and the like.

The bins in East Herts are changing - reinstituting a compost collection, adding a couple of bins. I was amazed at the complaints, particularly the 'we're paying more for less'! Which isn't strictly true, given they'll collect more. But also: have you seen the entire world, over the last couple of years? Yes, you are paying more. Anyway, I mentioned in passing as a laugh to the team after junior parkrun, and they joined straight in with their complaints. Apparently I am alone in shrugging and going thinking yep, right you are then.

Bins and cycle lanes. Subjects guaranteed to divide opinion. Oh, and fly tipping.

Who's FOR fly-tipping?

Ooops. I didn't think that through.

But to answer your question, unlicensed refuse disposal contractors are for it, but they don't talk about it on Nextdoor.

Yeah, we're the envy of all our neighbours who still have the unvented version.

Yesterday was brown bin (garden waste) day. I dutifully park ol' brown at the kerb and merrily went about my day, safe in the knowledge that my services were being serviced.

Imagine me horror when I returned home later and my brown bin was missing in action. A cursory search of the surrounding area revealed no clues. I gave up, resigned to the fact I would have to.... DUN DUN DUN... ring the council.

My petulant procrastination paid off big time however, as the brown bin magically reappeared this morning! I can only imagine what wonders it has seen and what adventures it has had.

The end
