I’ve played around 48 hours of this now, and it is excellent. It has adventuring and map-unlocking like Zelda, it has farming, and gathering like Harvest Moon, it has village building like Animal Crossing, it has party-building like miitopia, it has crafting mini games like Cooking Mama, it has a long storyline but you can abandon that at any time and just go exploring and crafting for a bit. I haven’t progressed the story for a few days now as I’ve been enjoying opening shrines and solving the puzzles in them, and exploring cave systems, mining ores, fighting monsters and chopping down trees.

10/10

And I can join in on controller 2 and help fight or gather stuff or just generally bounce around and point at things.

I'm really enjoying Crime Boss: Rockay City.

It turns out those actors (see previous page) are licensed. Chuck Norris plays a sheriff in it while people like Michael Madsen and Danny Glover are crime bosses.

It's essentially the Payday games but where they are horribly over-complicated, this is broken down into easy to manage missions. There's some decent stealth but if things do go awry, you can blast your way out. It's quite good fun being in the vault of a bank and having to blast your way out through SWAT teams to get to your van.

It's definitely not triple-A or anything but it's a lot of fun.

Whelk, looks like I'm back into Splatoon 3. It looks incredibly nice with the new update, all super-sharp on the Switch 2 screen and the bigger size is just perfect in tabletop mode - you can now comprehend what's going on! I am reasonable at it, winning 60/40 matches. I also like my jaunty bowler hat in game. New weapons abound, but I'm hilariously terrible at using anything but my tried-and-trusty Aerospray so heigh ho.

The kids got me Nightreign for fatha’s day! So that’s me then.

Just reviewing Soulstone Survivors. Essentially Vampire Survivors with slightly more modern graphics. Quite addictive and enjoyable but full of options (characters, skills, perks etc etc) and it's quite grindy. I like it though. The sort of game you want to play over six months rather than grind so you've got enough experience of it to write a credible review.

Nightreign has properly got its hooks in me now.

First boss done with randoms last night after 4 hours of getting my arse kicked while I got into the swing of things.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk

I've played Blue Prince a bit and it's intriguing. I'm really holding off reading about it or looking into it as I'd like to try not to spoil the mystery and work it out for myself, at the same time I'm feeling a touch impatient and it's really tempting to read up on and fill in some gaps.

If you like Jet Set Radio, you'll like this.

Graphically, musically, er, play-ally, it's a Jet Set Radio game.

I loved JSR up to a point. That point was a mission where I had to graffiti on the backs of other people who were skating around. Hopefully this game doesn't have that bullshit in it.

I don't play many games, haven't done for years, but when I started doing the school run about 5 years ago (because my granddaughter was being bullied at school and threatened with being attacked when she came out of school) I needed something to occupy my time when I was waiting for her to come out, so I downloaded Block Puzzle on to my phone. I thought it was a Tetris clone, but it's not, it's just sliding various block shapes on to the screen to make horizontal or vertical lines, which then disappear. You get points for every piece you get on to the screen and more when you clear a line. When you can't fit any of the pieces on because there aren't spaces for them, it's Game Over. There's a Jeopardy option, against the clock, but I rarely play that variant. If you close the game without it being Game Over, you are in the same position when you reopen it and can carry on from where you left off. Dead simple. I played it for a few weeks and managed to get up to over 118k points, but for since then I've never got even close to that score again. Until today.

The school run is now over. My granddaughter has just taken her GCSEs and is due to start college in September. but I still play the game. I passed the previous high score around lunchtime today, and have carried on over several session up to this evening. And now I have a new target.



Pathetic really, but I have a smug sense of achievement.

Fuck you Blue Prince I ain't got time for this shit any more, especially when I know what needs to be done but have to rely on luck to get the right room in the right place - I'm looking at guides now.

Nightreign has ruined my gaming hiatus.

Just finished FBC Firebreak. It was sort of rubbish but fun in a co-op kind of way. It was a real journey of not knowing what we were doing to eventually just carrying randoms to help them level up and complete missions.

On a retro thing, I've been playing Peggle on my Retroid Pocket 5. Emulating the PSP version. It's still great I reckon.

What's not great is that my co-op buddy and I started Contra: Rogue Corps which is proper shit but not shit enough to be unplayable. Shit enough to disconnect us just as we're about to finish a mission though. And the camera on it. Oh my. It's like they're trying to hide the action from you.

One more Nightreign boss to go!

The Callisto Protocol - fuck this is hard. Started with high hopes… quit after facing the two-headed brute. That thing’s a nightmare. Even on easy. Not enough space or ammo.
