I remembering us all gathering around the (at the time quite humbly-sized) TV watching him jump from the stratosphere out of a balloon at the cottage.

Indeed. In hindsight, he was a good bet this year.

Charles Augins - I did not recognise the name but Queeg from Red Dwarf (and a famous choreographer who worked with David Bowie on Labyrinth)

I hope that’s how I’m remembered too.

We were all supposed to go together when we go...

Other than the Marxes, Lehrer is probably the greatest influence on my sense of humour. I still remember discovering his work as an awkward teenager, listening to them constantly, and passing the tapes to all my friends who likewise became fans.

When one of my closest friends got married, since the happy couple had met the scout jamboree, I felt it only right and proper to finish my best man's speech to them with a verse from his Scouting anthem, "Be Prepared":
ZOMG Spoiler! Click here to view!
Quote:
If you're looking for adventure of a new and different kind,
And you come across a Girl Scout who is similarly inclined,
Don't be anxious
Don't be nervous
Don't be scared
Be Prepared!

Wandering around the space museum in Huntsville, Alabama, a friend and I both found ourselves humming the tune to his song about Werner von Bruan.

And of course, there's still no better way to spend a spring afternoon than poisoning pigeons in the park!

Aw that’s sad to read, but what a legacy of great kids books he wrote.

I remember his Postman book being my absolute favourite in Primary school. All of those little letters and other bit to pull out and read. Magical.

Indeed. Amazing legacy. Joyful, inventive, timeless. My kids loved them like I did and I'm sure their children will too.

Best ahlberg? For me it's Burglar Bill.
