I don't have a problem with compulsory voting, it helps if it's easy and open to do outside of the polling day rush.

Here, for example, the voting booths are open for a couple of days before the big day. However, most people turn up on the main day, which is usually a Saturday, and can end up having to wait in a long line unless they get lucky with the timing and miss the crowd.

With a little planning ahead it is much more civilised - we chipped off work at lunchtime, sauntered along on Friday and gave some bullshine excuse about not being available to vote on the Sat. (because 'i want to do it early' isn't reason enough, so 'I'm working / out of the area on Sat' are the easiest to use). The organisers do insist on a reason being given, but don't actually seem to care as long as the reason seems, uh, reasonable - and they certainly don't check if you are actually 'working/away'.

Postal voting is an option too but probably requires some paperwork to be done beforehand to register, and I'm rubbish with that sort of thing.

Don't forget, you can delete anything posted in the wrong thread and repost in the correct one, then anyone who commented on your mistake will look like the fool. ;)

Oops, sorry.

I won't make things worse by putting it back.
