Over Quake 2?

Doom was genre defining and I spent way more hours on it than quake

That doesn't make it a better game, though.

Are we talking single or multiplayer? Because I just didn't get on with single player Quake at all. Doom 2 I can still quite happily play now.

When I first played OG Quake (PC GAMER cover CD demo I think) I was overwhelmed by the controls, as I was using purely keyboard control after coming from Doom. Using PageUp and PageDwn to tilt the gun angle was awful. And I managed to play Descent with purely keyboard controls.

I read a guide in the next issue that detailed how to activate and use MOUSELOOK and it changed my world. Strafing became a thing instantly! Rocket jumps! Shortcuts! Snap turns and twitch reactions! Incredible.

I was once described, by someone known as RawMeat, as "the best keyboard only QuakeWorld player in London, perhaps the country"

I transitioned to mouse shortly after and it took me months to get as good as I was before.

I've just went on a hunt for old PC Format Magazines and found out that their TOP 5 10 90s video games were:

Syndicate
Delta Force
Doom 2
Half Life
Total Annihilation
Dune 2
Warcraft 2
Monkey Island 2
Civilization
Dark Forces

Blah blah Wednesday blah blah vote.

Also, fun recommend for Faux and Stallion, which was way funnier than I expected it to be.

Not really putting much thought into it, but.

Championship Manager 92/93
Tekken 2
Super Mario World
Pilotwings
Secret of Monkey Island

90s games, natch, not snacks with beer.

Tekken 2 over Tekken 3 is interesting. How come?

Maybe a timing thing with being at university, but we played a lot of Tekken 2 and I just never got into 3 in the same way.

I was out hiking at the weekend and found myself repeatedly singing "if there's more than one, there's a best and a worst" so, er, I guess I'm a fan now?
